larger. Also please fill out the form in the right column so we know
what to do with your PDF and who they are coming from.upload@mediacom.co
2) FTPis the most
reliable source because there is no limit to file size
and if there is an Internet service interuption, FTP has the
intelligence to hold and correct to ensure the proper and complete file
is sent.
If you don't have FTP software and using FireFox, go to Tools in
Firefox and en Addons, add FireFTP free or download stand aloneFileZilla(also
free).
Note:if sending by
FTP or email, please fill out the form info on the right to cue your

PDF ePublishing Prep Instructions:
Please note that on the form to the right it asks if the PDF being sent
has been optimized. Indicating "Yes" means that you have adhered to the
info below. Select "No" if for any reason you have trouble with these
requirements. We can then make some changes to our processing. However,
in all cases, we will need all fonts and graphics to be embedded in the
PDF file. What's Required:
1 PDF single file (that includes from 2 to 100 or more pages) is
required by us for processing. This is not the same file that would be
used for print publishing because print publishing requires much higher
resolution, much bigger files. You have two options: 1) take the print PDF file and reprint
using Acrobat 9 to the specs below or 2) output the file directly from
Quark/InDesign to the specs below.
PDF Important Prep
Configuration:
- Colors in PDF set RGB
- PDF for e-edition 150 DPI
-Embed all fonts and
images
- Save for Acrobat 4
- Convert gradients/drawing nodes to "simple or smooth"
Properly optimized, each page of the PDF should be 1Mb or less (eg 40pg
PDF=40mb).
Set Links
Setting links in Acrobat prior to uploading your file is important
because this way your links will be "live" in the e-edition. If you have
trouble doing this, we can do this for you at a small extra charge. See
rates. If your links are not set, please let us know in the form on the
right by clicking "No".
Some links
in the PDF will be actual live text, some will be embedded in graphics.
Acrobat can automatically make live text links live in seconds. Links
that are embedded in graphics will have to be done manually. Setting
both are done using Acrobat
Performing automatic links (in Acrobat 9)
Open PDF, go to Advanced, then Document Processing, then click Create
Links from URL's and then save.
Performing manual links in Acrobat 9:
Open PDF, go to Tools, Advanced Editing, Link Tools and then highlite
the area in the PDF page that you want to link to a web site or email
address.
Remember, your final file must be optimum to work efficiently online. To
fix this problem you can either route out the problem on the page or as
a last resort take a screen capture of the troubled page and replace it
in the workflow, then output again.
The most common problems in a PDF regarding optimization are:
A) Corrupt fonts
B) Drawing too many nodes
C) Gradient fills - too many
D) Layering - improper use
E) Nonstandard colors
F) PDF's that are locked
Sometimes when ads come in from outside sources and are placed in your
production makeup, the incoming file might have corrupt fonts or
unconventional artwork. If you notice when outputting a file that it
hangs at a certain page indicates problems at a certain page, this
should be corrected at once.
Note:
Additional fees apply when files are not prepped properly or pages have
corrupt components that do no process. Therefore, please check your
files closely before sending. If a page is suspect, either source the
problem, or replace the page in the PDF with a Jpeg of the page, to save
additional expenses.
Word Doc Prep(.doc,
rtf, etc. for EZPublisher)
Whether you are using Word, WordPerfect or other, most current word
processors allow for you to save your main document in RTF format. RTF
(.rtf) is rich text format and retains all the custom format properties
so it can be opened in any word processor. RTF helps ensure your
document will look the way you see it, regardless whether you are using
an older word processor or not. You can use the form on the right to upload your RTF document
with no problems whatsoever, however, archiving your document using Zip
or any number of other archiving products is the gold standard for
transmitting files because it protects files from any kind of corruption
through the sending process.
