Managing Co-op Mismanagement Can Be Costly
Fact. Many independent retailes do not take full advantage of their
suppliers' co-op advertising programs.
Fact. In failing to do so, they overlook revenue they have already
earned from making routine purchases.
Fact. Retailers are not alone in their neglect of co-op. Only two-thirds
of the estimated $25 billion in promotional monies granted by
manufacturers each year are used by retailers and distributors in all
industries, according to a recent national survey. The remaining $8
billion goes unclaimed for several reasons. Co-op claims are filed
haphazardly. Dealer claims are commonly rejected by manufacturers
because the appropriate paperwork was not sent on time (and possibly not
at all) or was filled out incorrectly. Purchase accruals are
